Lucus film was pestering me. I gave in. I transfered my domain (starwarskids.com) for merely the cost it cost me to buy, and host the domain. Here is the check they sent me:

When I was getting the Domain Transfer Agreement notarized, the man doing the notorization asked me what a 'Domain Name Transfer Agreement' was. I explained. He replied, 'But, they didn't have a site, right?' That's right I said. He continued, 'That's not right: it was your idea.' Oh well. I guess the majority of the world has more business sense than me.

I talked to David on the phone 10 days ago (on Dec 10). He indicated that Lucus does not have an immediate plan to put up a starwarskids site. I guess there is no rush in worrying about this domain name. Three main points were made by David:

  1. 'Someone complained about your site.' Well, the internet is full of stuff other people don't like.
  2. The other point was the 'STARWARSKIDS' contains a trademarked sequence of letters.
  3. Also, he mentioned that I had an ad banner up on my site: this is totally false, I have never put any ads up on this site.

Point 1. is hard to stop. I find stuff all over the Internet I don't personally like.
Point 2 has questionable legitamacy from my point of view: does http://www.aaacars.com/ infringe on the AAA trademark site: http://www.aaa.com/? Does any one have Star War Skids trademarked?
Point 3, being totally unfounded, makes me feel pushed around. I hate ad banners, why would I put them up on my site? Businesspeople have a difficult time understanding why other people do things for reasons other than money.

David's overall tone was 'mean'. My feeling from the conversation: David/Lucusfilms is pushy. This unfriendly behavior makes it more difficult to come to their terms (give up the domain and the work I put into it fer nuthing).

I had to take a large chunk of this site down :(     I'll create games which do not reference any materials owned by Lucas films!
I'm working through the legal issues and understanding Intellectual Property Rights. This is a lengthy process. If you are interested, check out my page on Intellectual property.

If you want to look at Star Wars sites, check out this list of links.

The Official Star Wars website has a real cool navigation system in Shockwave Director. The 'Six Degrees of Star Wars' is a window that pops up showing a Star Wars character. All the characters related to the person in the window have links to web pages describing them. Soon the entire Internet will navigate more like this.
