Heavy Pedal Crank Art Exhibition

Thanks to all you Bike Art connoisseurs that joined us at the exhibition!

Pics and review at The upTown Almanac.

Cyclecide and Circuit Network present the Heavy Pedal Crank Art Exhibition at The Lab
Friday & Saturday, March 30-31, 2012

The aim of this exhibition is to explore the concepts, principles, and ideas that the bike has inspired, transgressed, or altered.

Join us for a fun and inspiring weekend celebrating that most versatile machine, the Bicycle. Artists recycling bicycle parts, making work inspired by the bicycle or building their own hybrid machines include Johnny Payphone (clockwork bike); Keith Martin; August Wood; Loid Mongoloid(bike slot machine and jewelry); Jay Broemmel (slouch cycles-altered bikes); John & Sarina Raffa; Slim Buick (custom vintage bikes); Paul Cesewski (Kinetic bike sculptures); Kal Spelletich (Turbo Trike); Yoli Hadde; Neil Smith & Justin Solomon (Black Label Bike Club,  Oakland); and Jarico Reesce (Cyclecide), among others. We Invite all to come and see bikes that have been transformed or altered into pre-cycled sculptures and vehicles of imagination!

Also join Cyclecide and participating artists for Saturday night’s closing party celebrating the rise of the Bikes. Screenings of Jay Broemmel’s spoof “The Loaded Warrior” and the Cyclecide bike “safety” video. DJs, live performance by Los Banos, Cyclecide’s merry band of mariachi-punk musicians, and more to be announced.

Last Days of Discolandia

A Soul, Rhythm & Roots Dance Party
Featuring
DJ Harry Duncan
In the Soul Kitchen/KUSF in Exile
Saturday, January 14
$10, doors a 9pm, dancing till 2am
1660 Jerrold Ave. @ 3rd at the Cyclecide Swearhouse

Skins stretched over wood; horns made out of metal … cracking voices, clapping hands, shaking tambourines … funk recorded on reel-to-reel and pressed on wax … selected by smooth-talking turntable wizards wielding trunks full of treasures and an encyclopedic knowledge of sexy, rebellious, multi-cultural and yet decidedly American music.

KUSF’s Harry Duncan, a.k.a. Harry D, has been holding down ‘In the Soul Kitchen’ on Tuesday nights from 7 to 9pm for the past 28 years. Who knows how many babies have been conceived on his musical watch. This self-proclaimed ‘”Man Behind The Mike With The Strong Stuff You Like” is the former manager/performer of the Meters, Ornette Coleman, Boz Scaggs, Irma Thomas, and Captain Beefheart, among others … and his record collection is vast as his segues are smooth. To listeners, simply put, Harry D’s KUSF show has become synonymous with “Take me to funk and soul school once a week.”

Duncan’s late friend Bill Graham would be pleased to look down from Heaven and see Harry D stepping out of his Soul Kitchen these days to host rare-groove DJ sessions at the Fillmore, the Warfield, and Amoeba Records.

Saturday, January 14, 2012 marks the most ambitious rent party Cyclecide has ever thrown for their new warehouse space. Your last chance to see a real DJ — someone who knows more about music than you will ever know — and to dance your ass off like Discolandia Records never closed.
